If in Greece you don't want to spend your vacation in a hotel or camping, we recommend choosing from the many studios available everywhere.
But what exactly are they?
They are small apartments perfect for a vacation stay. Comprising one or more rooms, always equipped with one or two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchenette, they offer all the comforts necessary for a vacation.
The kitchenette usually has a refrigerator, electric burners, and some small appliances, as well as various pots and dishes.
Often equipped with air conditioning and WiFi, they may also have a balcony, terrace, patio, or garden.
As in hotels, sheets, towels, hygiene products, and detergents are available, but cleaning is not always daily.
Usually, they are managed by Greeks living on the island, and the family-run management is certainly an added value if you are interested in getting to know the local population better. If, however, you are looking for absolute privacy, it's not a problem to avoid familiarity and limit interactions to those strictly necessary with both the managers and the neighbors, but you might miss out on something...
Unlike various hotels, more or less luxurious, the studios are affordable. Sometimes breakfast is also offered, and you often find yourself gifted with fresh produce, eggs, and pastries.
The friendliness and cordiality of the managers are not at all rare. Friendships can be formed that continue even after the vacation is over and encourage you to return.
Usually, the architectural style of the studios is typically Greek as well as minimalist to favor practicality. It is therefore pleasant to live for a short period in a Greek atmosphere, a little different from what one is used to.
Very often, both at the port and the airport, the local studio managers try to contact arriving tourists to offer them the still available apartments. For safety, it is always better to book in advance, especially for peak season periods, but it's good to keep in mind that this possibility also exists.
In conclusion: if camping doesn't offer enough comfort for you and the hotel doesn't give you the freedom to cook something and binds you to schedules... then choose the freedom of a studio!
