Which are the Most Beautiful Greek Islands? Our Top 10 Picks
Let us suggest what we believe are the most beautiful Greek islands. It’s a challenging task because there are so many islands, each with its unique charm. Telling you which is the best among the Greek islands is nearly impossible. However, we can narrow it down to 10 islands that we recommend seeing first, as we consider them the most beautiful. In choosing the most beautiful Greek islands, we considered factors that contribute to their atmosphere: the sea, beaches, architecture, nature, archaeology, and entertainment. Selecting the best among the Greek islands is a task we leave to you; it’s truly impossible for us. At first glance, the islands may seem similar, but each can stay in your heart for different reasons: the cuisine, sunsets, hospitality, traditions, sports, wild environment, white beaches, steep cliffs, nightlife, or absolute relaxation. Here are 10 to start with...

ALONISSOS (SPORADES)

Its beauty lies mainly in the sea with its crystal-clear and colorful waters, reefs, fish-filled depths, and underwater archaeological remains. Alonissos is part of a significant natural park that includes surrounding islets hosting the rare monk seal species. We choose Alonissos for its marine environment.

CORFU (IONIAN ISLANDS)

An international island, very green, easily accessible, with an atmosphere reminiscent of Venetian rule. Touristic and lively but also genuine if you move away from the beaches, with a charming capital and a beautiful sea. We choose Corfu because it’s well connected by air to many European cities and complete in every aspect.

CRETE

A very large and varied island: it offers everything. Especially fascinating as the cradle of Minoan civilization (dating back to 3000 BC) and with some truly Caribbean-like beaches. Large archaeological areas, remote monasteries, fortresses, wild nature, and its characteristic folklore attract many tourists every year. The famous palace of Knossos, with its labyrinth, makes Crete an island of great attractions. We choose it for its incredible mix of beautiful beaches, high-level archaeological sites, and truly fascinating nature.

HYDRA (SARONIC ISLANDS)

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, motor vehicles are prohibited on the island, making it particularly attractive. The public transportation service along the cobblestone streets consists of donkeys and mules. Mostly frequented by artists and wealthy tourists (the port is full of yachts in summer), it’s a somewhat glamorous island. We choose Hydra because the presence of many artists gives it a unique charm, and the absence of motor vehicles allows for a completely relaxing stay.

A recommended destination for sea lovers, it offers countless beaches and landscapes for all tastes. Thanks to its volcanic origin, it offers lunar landscapes, sulfur emissions, colorful pebbles, caves, and incredible cliffs. Despite having a beautiful sea and ancient historical sites, we choose Milos for its colorful cliffs that give the beaches an almost surreal atmosphere.

SANTORINI (CYCLADES)

Santorini is unique! The last of the 10 islands we selected, but only because they are listed alphabetically. Its volcanic nature makes it an almost magical island, with very romantic sunsets, incredible colored lava sand beaches, and beautiful white villages perched on cliffs. The view from the caldera is truly incredible. We chose Santorini simply because it would have been a crime not to!
