Koufonissi (in Greek Κουφονήσι) is part of the small archipelago called the "Small Cyclades" located southeast of Naxos (3 nautical miles). It actually consists of two islets: Pano Koufonissi (the more inhabited one) and Kato Koufonissi (almost uninhabited). It can only be reached by sea, lying 120 nautical miles from Piraeus, 17 nautical miles from Amorgos, and is connected with some other Cyclades islands as well as with the islets of its own archipelago.

It has an area of 4 km² and about 300 inhabitants.

The island is flat, arid, and wild but with beautiful beaches and a stunning sea: colorful and crystal clear. Its coasts also feature many areas with cliffs.

The inhabitants engage in tourism during the summer and fishing for the rest of the year.

The capital of the island, and its only inhabited center, is Koufonissi, more commonly called Chora, with the main port.

Tourism has only reached the island in recent years, so there is not yet a real nightlife. However, in August, the number of tourists is very high, much more than on the other Small Cyclades.

The island's road network is limited to three short roads. There are no car or scooter rentals, but Koufonissi can be easily visited on foot due to its small size (the few cars circulating are mostly for agricultural use). To reach the beaches, you can use taxi boats or the local summer buses.
