Delos (from the Greek Δῆλος) is located at the center of the Cyclades archipelago between Mykonos, from which it is about 1 nautical mile away, and the small island of Rinia. It can only be reached by sea, usually from Mykonos.

It has an area of 4 km² and is uninhabited.

The island is made of granite and is completely devoid of vegetation. Its highest point (Mount Cinto) barely exceeds 100 meters in height. The coasts are high and jagged, and the climate is particularly scorching. Full of light, it offers very little shade to visitors, and even in the past, according to mythology, it hosted only one tree: a palm.

According to mythology, Apollo and Artemis were born in Delos, and people from all over the Greek world came to worship them on the small island. In the past, it was thus the greatest religious center of the Aegean as well as an important commercial port, and its splendor is still imaginable from the remains of the lavish villas that remain. An interesting fact: it was forbidden to be born or die on Delos. Expectant mothers were transferred to the nearby island of Rinia, as were the deceased.

The island is visited on foot.
