Marathi (from the Greek Μαράθι), whose name means “fennel,” is a small islet in the Dodecanese surrounded by 9 very tiny islands, located east of Patmos and north of Lipsi, next to Arki. It can only be reached by sea, by caique, from the nearby Patmos (11 nautical miles) and Lipsi (5 nautical miles).

It has an area of 0.35 km² and a population of about ten inhabitants.

The island is little more than a large rock with some vegetation where goats graze. Its highest point (Mount Vigla) is only 51 meters. The very few inhabitants live by fishing and run a few taverns with rooms for rent.

The island has no villages but only a few houses, including two taverns, near the picturesque port within a fjord protected by islets.

Marathi, not yet discovered by tourism (except for many yachtsmen who reach it in high season), offers maximum tranquility and especially the opportunity to immerse oneself in the most authentic Greece where the daily life of the few inhabitants still follows the rhythms of the past. The sea is very beautiful and crystal clear, and there is also a nice beach.

The island has no roads, but being tiny, it can easily be visited on foot.
