What to see in Poros?

Poros is very popular among Greeks due to its proximity to Athens but also offers the possibility of isolating oneself in a lush natural setting. Here are the main things to see.

Poros
The capital is located on a small, barren volcanic appendage of the island, with houses built amphitheatrically on the rock. Its position offers a panoramic view of the village of Galatas situated directly opposite on the Peloponnese. The coast viewed from here is very green with rocky mountains in the background.

Archaeological Museum
A museum containing objects found in the excavations of Troezen and Ermioni on the Peloponnese.

Clock Tower
An emblem of the island, the clock tower is located at the highest point of the city and is visible from far away.

Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi
A monastery with beautiful Byzantine paintings and a wooden iconostasis, situated on a hill with a splendid view of the lemon plantation of the Peloponnese.

Temple of Poseidon
Ruins of the temple located in a very panoramic area overlooking the Peloponnese. In this temple, Demosthenes poisoned himself to avoid being captured by Macedonian soldiers.

Neorion
A picturesque seaside village among the pines.

Sunset
The best area to admire the sunset is Mount Kimomeni, shaped like a reclining woman.

Boat trip to Lemonodasos
A 10-minute crossing to the lemon plantation on the coast of the Peloponnese. In spring, the scent of blooming lemons is truly intoxicating.

Boat trip along the Argolid coast
A pleasant trip to Methana, a well-known thermal station, Galatas, and the ruins of ancient Troezen.
