Have you decided on a vacation in Greece? Maybe on an island? If you are free from constraints and can choose any time of the year, let's see together when to visit the Greek islands. The best time depends not only on the climate but also on your interests. You might want a vacation filled with fun or sports, culture, new friendships, relaxation, sunbathing, and swimming, or something else. Regarding the climate, it can be helpful to read the article "Clima isole greche: meteo e temperature per ogni arcipelago".
Additionally, we have briefly described what awaits you on the Greek islands throughout the year, month by month:
In the imagination of many, the Greek islands are a place of sunlit and blooming villages, with turquoise and crystal-clear seas, a clear blue sky, many taverns with tables just a few meters from the water, beach parties... All of this is exactly what you can find in the summer. If these are the things you seek most for your holiday on a Greek island, then definitely choose the period from June to September. In July and August, in particular, you will find more tourists, more fun, more opportunities for sports, more restaurants and hotels open, more days of scorching sun, more wind, more of everything!
To find beautiful sunny days, you can start going from April and until November you can think of staying outdoors with nice warm and dry weather. For those who suffer particularly from the heat, it would be better to avoid July and August, although the presence of wind on the islands often mitigates the heat. Rainy days are mainly concentrated between December and February, as well as the coldest days, although never very cold. If you are bothered by the wind, in July and August (especially in the Cyclades), the Meltemi wind appears very often. If you can only get into the sea when it is "like a broth," then go to an island in the southern Aegean Sea or one of the Ionian Islands. If your trip is mainly focused on visiting archaeological sites, museums, and monuments, then it is better to avoid the high season, both because of the heat and the higher flow of tourists. If you want to save money, it goes without saying that the low season or even winter is the cheapest, although you have to deal with limited connections and accommodations. Winter is not very cold, so if you love solitude, the charm of genuine places, free of tourists, and closer contact with the locals, then it is the season to choose.
As you can see, every time of the year has its positive sides. You can also try to see the same island in different seasons: it will seem like a new island!
