The island of Sifnos is characterized by its beautiful panoramic beaches and characteristic white villages. It is very popular with young people who gather in increasing numbers every summer.
Apollonia
A typically Cycladic town, with a Folklore Museum and the church of Aghios Sotir featuring ancient frescoes and a beautiful carved iconostasis. It is very panoramic and spreads over three hills in a curious up and down of beautiful white houses, detailed in features such as terracotta chimneys.
Agios Sostis
Area of the ancient gold mines.
Kastro
A beautiful fortified medieval village of white cubical houses with the ruins of a Venetian castle, ancient churches (including a Catholic one dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua), windmills: all perched on the sea. Notably, there is a road that passes over the roofs of one-story houses and is connected by small bridges to the upper floors of adjacent houses. The village also has a small Archaeological Museum.
Artemonas
A picturesque village with splendid and pure Cycladic architecture, built on top of a hill cultivated with orchards. It is rich in churches, shops, bakeries, and windmills.
Monastery of Profitis Ilias
A beautiful 900-year-old monastery with fortified walls.
Monastery of Agios Symeon
Very panoramic, built on top of a mountain.
Panagia Chrissopigi
A rich sanctuary dedicated to the island's protector, containing a miraculous icon and built on a small rocky peninsula.
Dovecotes
Visible amidst the greenery, these are beautiful crenellated stone towers (some from the medieval period) intended to house doves.
Ferragosto Festival
Held on August 15th at the sanctuary of Panaghia Chrissopigi, featuring a procession of boats and plenty of food.
Vathi Festival
Held on September 9th with a procession of boats carrying torches.
