A vacation, even just for a few days, on the island of Sikinos is ideal for those seeking serenity, unspoiled nature for walking or taking photographs. Fishing and scuba diving enthusiasts also appreciate it. Here are the main things to do or see on the island.
Sikinos (Chora)
Located at 280 meters above sea level, perched over the sea, it is a picturesque village with white houses and narrow streets, not yet altered by tourism. Must-see is the church of Pantanassa with beautiful icons. The village consists of two distinct areas: the older part (Kastro) boasts stately homes and fortified walls, and the newer part (Chorio) is absolutely Cycladic in style with white houses whose architecture has never been altered over the years, and a small Folklore Museum.
Zoodochos Pigi Monastery
A beautiful 15th-century white monastery, fortified and used in the past as a refuge for the population at the sight of pirates. It is reachable from Chora via a path and can be visited with appropriate clothing.
Episkopi
Reachable on foot in about an hour from Chora via a very scenic path, this is the site where a temple dedicated to Apollo once stood. Now the church Kimisi Tis Theotokou is located here.
Agia Marina
Continuing on the path leading to Episkopi, you can see the traces of the first human settlements on the island in this area.
Paliokastro
A very panoramic area overlooking the island of Ios with the ruins of a castle. It can be reached from Chora with a pleasant walk of more than an hour.
Mavri Spilià
It is the largest cave on the island, reachable only by sea, and has fantastic colors.
