Kastos (from Greek Καστός) is a small, elongated island in the Ionian Sea, located southeast of Lefkada between the island of Kalamos and the mainland, from which it is only 5 km away. It can only be reached by sea.
It has an area of 6 km² and a population of about 50 inhabitants.
Kastos is a hilly island, reaching only 120 meters at its highest point. The west has steep and rugged coasts, while the east is flatter with some small beaches. The territory is mainly covered with wild olive trees, some centuries old, pines, and typical Mediterranean scrub. The inhabitants mainly engage in livestock breeding, fishing, and tourism.
The capital and the only village on the island is Kastos, where the main port is also located. It is a quiet island, almost uninhabited, and relatively untouristed.
The sea is clean and rich in fish, and during the summer season, Kastos attracts many boats that visit its beautiful and numerous coves.
In Kastos, there are two roads that run the entire length of the island, but car circulation is certainly not allowed for tourists. There is no public land transportation, but since the distances are never excessive, it can still be visited on foot or by bicycle.
