Meganisi (from Greek Μεγανήσι) is the largest of the small islands located southeast of Lefkada in the Ionian Islands archipelago. It is only accessible by sea and is 12 nautical miles from the port of Lefkada (4 nautical miles at the closest point).
It has an area of 20 km² and a population of about 2000 inhabitants.
Meganisi is a very green island with highly indented coasts and deep inlets. To the south of the island, there are several beautiful sea caves. Covered with olive trees and pines, it reaches 301 meters at its highest point. The inhabitants are engaged in fishing and tourism.
The capital of the island is Katomeri while the port is located in Vathy. It is a tranquil island, not very developed for tourism.
The sea is very clear, green, and beautiful.
According to popular legends, Meganisi is home to the cave of the cyclops blinded by Odysseus.
The island's villages are connected by a paved road, while along the coasts the roads are unpaved. There is a local minibus line, and it is possible to rent cars and scooters.
