Castelorizo or Kastellorizo (from the Greek Καστελόριζο) or Megisti is a small island in the Dodecanese that became famous and considered by tourists after the director Salvatores filmed the Oscar-winning movie "Mediterraneo" there. The island is only 3 kilometers from the Turkish coast, 72 nautical miles from Rhodes, and 150 from Cyprus. It can be reached by sea from the Greek port of Piraeus (328 nautical miles) or by air (Public Airport of Castelorizo).

It has an area of 12 km² and a population of about 400 inhabitants.

Castelorizo is an arid and rugged plateau with little fresh water presence. The highest point on the island reaches only 273 meters. Vegetation is scarce; there are only some olive groves, orchards, and vegetable gardens. Among the local products, ceramics, textiles, and honey can be purchased.

The capital and only village on the island is Castelorizo, where the main port is located.

The island's very clean sea, with its various colors, stands out against the pinkish hue (from which Castelorizo or Castelrosso gets its name) of the island. It is highly appreciated by divers for its seabed and the clarity of its waters, as well as by fishermen and windsurfers.

The island's road network consists of a single road connecting the village to the airport. A minibus and a taxi shuttle along this road. To get around the island, you can simply walk or take a boat.
