What to see in Limnos?

You can choose to vacation in Limnos attracted by its abundant fishing waters, beautiful beaches, tranquility, archaeology, and the great variety of its landscape. Below is a list of the main things to see.

Myrina
It is the capital of the island, built on the site of a very ancient city. Myrina has the island's main port and two beautiful beaches separated by a rocky promontory topped by an imposing castle with a panoramic position. In Myrina, you can also visit an interesting Archaeological Museum located in the former residence of a Turkish pasha. The most picturesque corner of the capital is the fishermen's harbor, where their caiques are anchored.

Ancient city of Hephaistia
An archaeological area located in the north of the island with a theater, remains of churches, tombs, and houses. This was the largest city of ancient Limnos around 1000 B.C.

Poliochni
A very interesting archaeological site, located on the southeastern coast, which shows traces of a Bronze Age city (around 2300 B.C.).

Ruins of the Sanctuary of the Cabeiri
Located in Khloi, near the city of Hephaistia, you can see the ruins of the great and ancient Sanctuary of the Cabeiri.

Moudros
It is the second port of the island (one of the safest in the Mediterranean) and once the capital of Limnos. Here you can admire the beautiful church of Evangelismos Theotokou.

From the island, you can admire a spectacular sunset with Mount Athos silhouetted on the horizon.

Kontias
A beautiful village with period houses along charming streets and the lovely church of Christos.

Festival of Aghios Sozontas
Held on September 7, it is the largest festival on the island, with local songs and dances.
