Oinousses or Inousses (from the Greek Οινούσσες), also known as Aignoussa or Egnoussa, is a small archipelago of 9 islets located next to Chios (9 nautical miles from its port) and near the Turkish coast. The only inhabited island is Oinousses, the largest.
The island of Oinousses has an area of 17 km² and about 1,000 inhabitants, mostly residing in the capital.
The interior consists of gentle hills in a very relaxing environment.
The island's inhabitants are generally sailors, fishermen, or goat herders. In the past, they produced excellent wine.
The capital is Oinousses, where the main port is also located.
The island is not well-equipped for tourism but is inhabited and frequented by sailors and shipowners who reside in beautiful white villas during the holiday period.
The road network is obviously limited but sufficient to reach the main beaches. There is no bus service on the island, nor any car or scooter rentals, but there are some taxis available.
