What to see in Thassos?

You can choose to vacation in Thassos attracted by its lush greenery, its mythology, but also by its beautiful blue sea and beaches. Below is a list of the main attractions to see.

Limenas (Thassos)
It is the capital of the island, built on the ancient city. The archaeological site is located near the port where you can see the remains of a couple of temples and the agora. On the hillside, there is a theater where performances are still held in the summer. At the top of the hill is the acropolis. The remains of the medieval wall, built on the ancient one, are also characteristic, including 12 towers and some gates. The best-preserved part is under the Acropolis.

Archaeological Museum
Located in the capital near the old port, it contains beautiful artifacts found on the island.

Island Tour
A good paved road circles the island always near the sea. It offers a beautiful landscape among rich vegetation, beaches, typical villages, ancient marble quarries, archaeological remains, and early Christian churches.

Theologos
A beautiful medieval village with Macedonian houses built with slate roofs and wooden balconies.

Panaghia
A characteristic inland village, very beautiful and quite lively. The presence of abundant water flowing everywhere in streams, small waterfalls, and various fountains is curious. Huge plane trees embellish the squares. On the sea, there is a charming little harbor: Skala Panaghia.

Potamia
A beautiful village with stone streets worn by time, located right at the foot of the island's highest mountain and surrounded by pine forests. At the port, Skala Potamia, there is the arsenal of an ancient monastery.

Karies, Prinos, Kazaviti
Other picturesque villages.

Alyki
Alyki consists of a pine-covered promontory that separates two very beautiful beaches. From the southern beach, lined with taverns, there is a beautiful walk among the pines that, following the sea, leads to the other beach, passing through the ancient port and the archaeological remains. On the peninsula, there are the remains of the ancient village with two early Christian churches and two temples, and at the very tip, the remains of the ancient port area used to load ships with the white marble blocks quarried locally. The remains of some blocks used for the loading machines can still be seen, and the rocks in the area are all white and smooth.

Monastery of Archangel Michael
Located near Thymonia, the female monastery of Archangel Michael can be visited freely, but you must be dressed appropriately: men with covered shoulders and long pants, women with skirts below the knee and covered shoulders. The monastery is very panoramic, perched on the mountainside, but it is modern. The small church is beautiful.

This is a festival where men and women dance in traditional costumes.
