Andros offers the possibility of a wonderful beach-style vacation because it definitely has beautiful beaches, but it is also appreciated by trekking enthusiasts for the availability of various trails. Below, I list the main attractions.
Andros
Andros is the Chora of the island and stretches out on a strip of land that extends into the sea. At the end, a stone arch connects it to a rock where the Venetian castle once stood. It is customary to dive and swim under the medieval arch. The capital is accessible from the port via picturesque stairs and has several museums (archaeological, modern art, and maritime). Its houses are mostly in neoclassical or Venetian style. Worth seeing are the church of Panaghia Palatiani and that of Panaghia Odighitria, built on a rock.
Batsi
Once a picturesque fishing village, it is now a very lively and popular tourist destination.
Monastery Zoodohos Pighi
Located inland from Batsi, it is a 14th-century monastery where a spring with seemingly miraculous effects on the health of body and mind flows. For visiting the monastery, one must wear covering clothes.
Aghios Petros
A village with a large five-story tower nearby, about 20 meters high, whose original purpose remains undetermined.
Paleopoli
A village born on the ruins of the ancient city of Andros, on the west coast of the island. Archaeologically interesting are the remains of the walls and the ancient port.
Menites
A picturesque inland village immersed in greenery with beautiful churches, a monastery, and springs.
Korthion
A village located to the east with the ruins of a Venetian castle and a beautiful medieval village.
Sariza Thermal Station
Known for its ferruginous waters, it is located in a beautiful mountain setting in Apoikia near a ravine.
Stenies
A very picturesque village with beautiful manor houses.
Church of Taxiarchis
An interesting Byzantine church from the 1100s located near the village of Mesaria.
Monastery Panachrantos
Accessible only on foot from the village of Sineti and located in the mountains, it is a thousand-year-old fortified monastery that preserves precious treasures. On July 27, it is the destination of a pilgrimage.
Mount Petalon
To climb to the highest mountain of the island, you must start from the village of Arnas and walk for about an hour.
