What to see in Mykonos?

Mykonos is the queen of Greek summer nights, cosmopolitan, expensive, fashionable, and a preferred destination for gay people from all over the world. There are many places to spend the night having fun. However, it is also possible to enjoy the island without excesses, living the classic beach life with family or friends. There are no archaeological ruins on Mykonos, but for history lovers, Delos is just a stone's throw away. Below are the main attractions of the island.

Mykonos (Chora)
A characteristic village made up of houses all strictly white with bright-colored details, some with curious dovecotes, separated by narrow alleys forming a sort of labyrinth to protect against the wind. It is shaped like an amphitheater on the hills overlooking the port, where the splendid and curious church of Panagia Paraportiani is located, consisting of 4 or 5 small churches united together and arranged on multiple levels. Both the Archaeological Museum and the Maritime Museum are interesting.

Little Venice
A beautiful district in Chora with houses right on the water, featuring typical wooden balconies and terraces overlooking the sea.

Windmills
There are many windmills scattered around the island, but the most admired are in Chora. The “lower five windmills” are located near the Alefkandra district, while the “upper windmills” are east of Matogianni. In the past, they were used to produce flour, and some are still operational.

Pelicans
On the waterfront of Chora, you can feed the pelicans that roam undisturbed, the true mascots of the island.

Armenistis Lighthouse
Reachable by a dirt road in the northwest of the island, it offers a splendid view of the island of Tinos and a fascinating sunset.

Ano Mera
A charming village with the beautiful Panagia Tourliani Monastery, which includes an ecclesiastical museum.

Dragoinisi
A small islet very close to Mykonos, where there is a beautiful cave that attracts many divers. It is not uncommon to spot the monk seal in the area.

Delos
Being very close to Mykonos, the sacred island of Delos with its archaeological remains is definitely worth a day trip.
