Kalamos (from Greek Κάλαμος) is a small Ionian island located southeast of Lefkada, between the island of Meganisi and the mainland (Mytikas), from which it is only 1.4 nautical miles away. It can only be reached by sea.
It has an area of 20 km² and a population of about 600 inhabitants.
Kalamos is a mountainous island, reaching 785 meters at its highest point. Its territory, especially in the north, is covered with pines, some of a variety found only on this island, giving it a somewhat wild appearance. The inhabitants engage in agriculture and a bit of tourism.
The capital of the island is Kalamos, where the main port is located. It is a quiet, rural, and not very touristy island.
The sea is clean and there are beautiful sandy beaches.
The two villages on the island are connected by a road that in some points is steep and winding, but car circulation on the island is not allowed for non-residents. There is no public transport except for taxi boats. Since distances are never excessive, the island can still be visited on foot or by bicycle.
