SKIATHOS

Skiathos (from Greek Σκιάθος) is part of the Sporades along with Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros. Despite being very close to the Pelion Peninsula, it can be reached by sea from Volos (41 nautical miles) or Agios Konstantinos (44 nautical miles).

It has an area of 50 km² and about 6,000 inhabitants, but this number increases significantly in the summer due to tourism.

The island is very green (its name actually derives from "shade"), formed by low mountains covered with pine trees and many sandy bays.

Skiathos was one of the first Greek islands to be discovered by tourism and remains one of the most renowned and frequented. It has an airport and three ports, and with its numerous hotels, including luxury ones, it has become one of the most cosmopolitan places in Greece. Fortunately, its capital, La Chora (or Skiathos), has retained its charm with narrow alleys among white houses filled with flowers, and the beaches are still beautiful.

The stretch of south coast from La Chora to Koukonaries is very beautiful but crowded and characterized by a lively nightlife, while the north coast is wilder and less frequented. The island is also known to Greeks for being the birthplace of the famous novelist Papadiamantis, whose house can be seen in La Chora.

The island is famous for its entertainment and the beauty of its sea and numerous beaches, but it also offers several cultural attractions to tourists.

The entire south coast is very well served by a bus line, and there are also car and scooter rentals available. The airport and the Evanghelistria Monastery are also accessible by bus.

In the upper part of La Chora, there is a well-equipped hospital.
