There are many reasons to choose a vacation in Skiathos: its clear sea, beautiful sandy beaches, greenery, entertainment, monasteries, and local architecture. Below is a list of the main things to see.
La Chora
This is the name of the capital of Skiathos (and many other islands), characterized by its picturesque streets that wind down the hill among white houses filled with flowers and, in summer, tourists strolling around. In La Chora, you can visit the house of the novelist Papadiamantis, which has been turned into a museum. There are many restaurants and nightlife spots of all kinds.
Bourtzi
This is a small peninsula that separates the two ports of La Chora. Rich in pines, it includes a very panoramic castle.
Moni Evangelistrias
Located north of La Chora (about 4km), this is the historic monastery of Skiathos where the Greek flag as we know it today was first raised. On the 15th of August, the "burial of the Virgin Mary" is celebrated at this monastery.
Moni Panagias (Kounistras)
It is located in the direction of Asselinos and is reached by a paved road. The monastery is famous for the discovery of a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary hanging from a tree (now kept in the cathedral of La Chora). The place is strongly religious and the landscape very beautiful.
Kastro
This is a large rock on the northern tip of the island where the old fortified capital was built to protect the inhabitants. Battles against the Turks and pirates were fought from the castle. Kastro can be more easily reached by sea.
Islet Tsougrias
A small private but visitable island, very picturesque, with lots of greenery and beautiful beaches.
Blue Cave and Black Cave
Beautiful caves that can be visited by sea, located northeast near Lalaria.
