Psara (from the Greek Ψαρά) is located in the northern Aegean Sea next to the island of Chios (10 nautical miles) and is part of a small group of seven islets. It can only be reached by sea.

Psara has an area of 44 km² and about 500 inhabitants living in the island's only village.

The interior is barren, rocky with a few thorny bushes, thyme, and some fig trees, but the beaches are very beautiful and the sea is crystal clear. The highest point reaches 512 meters above sea level (Mount Profitis Ilias).

Due to the rocky terrain, the island is not suitable for agriculture, and its inhabitants are almost all engaged in port activities and fishing.

The capital and only village is Psara, where the port is also located.

In the past, the island was among the first to revolt against the Turks during the Greek War of Independence, but despite the great courage shown, it was conquered, set on fire, and about 30,000 of its inhabitants were massacred. It rejoined Greece only in 1912.

The road network is very limited, and there are very few cars on the island. There is no bus or taxi service: people mainly move on foot or by sea. There are no car, scooter, or bicycle rentals either: if necessary, you can bring your own vehicle directly by ferry.
