Ios (from Greek Ίος) is one of the southern Cyclades, located between Naxos and Santorini and can only be reached by sea. The island is 111 nautical miles from Piraeus and is connected to many other Cyclades as well as more distant islands such as Crete.

It has an area of 108 km² and about 2000 inhabitants.

Ios features an unspoiled natural environment and is predominantly hilly with Mount Pyrgos as the highest peak (713 meters). It is a rocky, arid island, sparsely populated, and only behind the port area and the Milopotamos beach are there small fertile green plains. Its coasts are jagged and enclose beautiful sandy bays. The island's agriculture essentially consists of the cultivation of olive trees and vines. The main resource nowadays is undoubtedly tourism.

The capital of the island is Ios, more commonly called Chora, with the main port. According to tradition, Homer died on this island. Nowadays, the island is very lively, being a destination for many young people who literally flock to it in the summer in search of a slightly transgressive vacation and full of fun.

The sea of Ios is very beautiful, as are its sandy beaches.

The island's road network is good, although limited; basically, two roads connect the port with the Manganari bay to the south and with the Aghia Theodoti bay to the east. All tourist areas are well connected to each other by local buses. There are car and scooter rental services and a taxi service on the island.
