Tinos is known primarily as a religious destination, but it should not be overlooked for a beach vacation. Its villages are very beautiful, it is green, rich in water, and has several beaches, both secluded and equipped. Below is a list of what you can admire on the island.
Tinos
The white capital, with cobblestone streets, is centered around the grand sanctuary of Panaghia Evanghelistria, the protector of sailors. Besides the classic Cycladic style, the capital boasts beautiful examples of Venetian architecture. Visit the archaeological museum with relics from the ancient sanctuary dedicated to Poseidon and Amphitrite, the island's protectors.
Santuario della Panaghia Evanghelistria
A modern sanctuary, very famous in Greece and heavily frequented, especially by the sick, due to the presence of a miraculous icon. Inside the church, numerous offerings and votive objects hang from the ceiling. The icon of the Madonna is so covered in gold and jewels that it is almost impossible to see. The church also has a spring, said to be miraculous, located on the ground floor in a crypt. Often, the faithful reach the church from the port pier on their knees: the similarities with Lourdes for Catholics are many.
Ysternia
A beautiful fishing village with a church whose roof is covered with ceramics that shine suggestively in the sun, many arches between the houses, and inhabited mainly by painters and sculptors.
Ktikados
A village immersed in greenery and crossed by small streams, very scenic and with some murals.
Tripotamos
A characteristic village with narrow streets crossed by small arches and galleries.
Kardiani
A beautiful town that stretches along a cliff, surrounded by fruit trees and cypresses.
Pyrgos
A village literally cut in two by a ravine, loved by artists, especially sculptors, due to its proximity to the marble quarries, composed of white houses all adorned with friezes and a very large church.
Panormos
A beautiful fishing village immersed in the tranquility of a long inlet closed by an islet.
Monastero di Kechrovouni
One of the most evocative monasteries of the Cyclades, from the 10th century, located near Arnados. It resembles a small Cycladic village made up of white houses full of flowers where the nuns live.
Exobourgo
A Venetian-style lookout that offers a spectacular view of the islands surrounding Tinos.
Volax
A traditional village nestled among the valleys, very white, full of flowers, and known for the craftsmanship of straw and wicker baskets.
Colombaie
Beautiful and characteristic dovecotes, tower-shaped, are present in large numbers throughout the island. In the past, the Venetians used pigeons to send messages to nearby islands. The most characteristic dovecotes, decorated with battlements, false chimneys, and terraces, are found in Tarabados.
Feste della Panagia Evangelistria
On March 25 and August 15, two important pilgrimages bring many faithful to the sanctuary.
