The beaches of Ithaca are both sandy and pebbly. The most fascinating ones are to be found by sea, where they are not only deserted but also offer crystal-clear water. Here are the most notable ones, starting from the port of Vathi and touring the island counterclockwise.
Vathi
Near Vathi, there are at least three very beautiful beaches: Filiatro, Dexa, and Gidaki. Filiatro is composed of gravel and white pebbles, immersed in greenery with beautiful, clear, and colorful water. Dexa is a beautiful gravel beach surrounded by lush vegetation and with very beautiful and clear water. Gidaki is only accessible by sea (20 minutes from the port of Vathi) and is a beautiful sandy beach with emerald-colored, crystal-clear water, perhaps the most beautiful on the island.
Kioni
Located near the beautiful and characteristic village of Kioni, it is quite crowded, with gravel and pebbles, and very clean water.
Frikes
Located near the village of Frikes, it is a sandy and gravel beach, quite crowded, with beautiful blue water gently sloping and cliffs at the ends.
Stavros
Extending near the village of Stavros, where it is believed that Odysseus's palace once stood, it is a beautiful and popular beach with crystal-clear water.
Polis
Located near the village of Lefki, it is a beautiful and long beach of white pebbles, bordered by cliffs rich in vegetation with beautiful turquoise and clear water gently sloping.
Aghios Ioannis
Located to the west, just north of the narrow part of the island, it is a fine sandy beach with beautiful, colorful, crystal-clear water gently sloping.
Aetos
Located to the west, just south of the narrow part of the island, it is a small, unorganized beach, very quiet, with beautiful, clear water.
Sarakiniko
A small pebbly beach rich in vegetation offering natural shade, somewhat wild (not organized), quiet, with crystal-clear water. It can be reached by boat or on foot via a path from Vathi (about an hour).
