The main charm of Lipsi comes from its crystal-clear sea and the genuine, truly Greek atmosphere that can still be felt. The island is very small, so rather than being a place to visit museums or archaeological sites, it is suitable for pleasant walks to your favorite beaches. In the evening, don't miss the calm atmosphere of the port and the excellent fresh fish. Below are some things worth seeing or doing in Lipsi.
Lipsi
The capital and only village on the island has a picturesque square and is made up of white houses with blue or pink shutters. In the center of the square, there is the colorful town hall, the library, and a small carpet factory.
“Nikiforio” Ecclesiastical-Folklore Museum
It illustrates the history of the island and contains some early Christian objects, a collection of icons, crucifixes, and ex-votos brought by faithful from all over the world.
Nearby islets
Highly recommended are the pleasant daily excursions to the islets surrounding Lipsi, which offer spectacular sea views: Marathi, Arki, Makronisi, and Aspronisi.
Church of Kimissi tis Theotokou
A charming sixteenth-century church located near the main port, amidst greenery. It is visitable but with appropriate clothing (long pants or skirts and covered shoulders).
Feast of Panaghia tou Charou
Held on August 24 at the church of Panaghia tou Charou located on top of a hill and reachable with a nice walk towards Hohlacoura beach. The church contains a miraculous icon with dry lilies that seem to bloom again on that day every year.
Wine Festival
A lovely festival held in August where you can taste local dishes and wines.
