What to see in Alonissos?

Alonissos has one of the most beautiful stretches of sea in all the Aegean islands. Its waters are extremely clear, the island is rich in pine forests, and the rocky areas are made of white marble veined with red. Among the things to see, in addition to the beaches and natural landscapes, here are some highlights:

Antica città di Ikos
Located in the area of Kokkinokastro, it holds the oldest artifacts in the entire Aegean.

Alonissos
The old capital, semi-abandoned after the 1965 earthquake, situated high on a hill away from the noise of tourism. It has all the characteristics of a typical Greek village with white houses and lots of vegetation. Particularly suggestive to visit at sunset.

Castello Veneziano
Located in the old town of Alonissos, where you can see the ancient walls.

Steni Vala
A quiet and very pleasant small port.

Votsi
A beautiful village of white houses on the cliff.

Parco marino e isole minori
Alonissos hosts the largest marine park in the Mediterranean. Here you can spot the rare Mediterranean monk seal and dolphins. It's a recommended area for snorkeling enthusiasts and offers the chance to see beautiful beaches, such as on the island of Peristera, an underwater city on the island of Psathura, a panoramic 11th-century monastery on the island of Kyra Panagia, and the Cyclops Cave with stalactites and stalagmites on the island of Ghioura.
