What Greek Islands to Cycle Around?

What Greek Islands to Cycle Around?
If we want to see Greece from the saddle of a bicycle? Maybe roaming from one island to another? Bringing our folding bike on the plane, or loading it onto the car, or simply renting it on the spot? Below we provide a brief description of the Greek islands that are most suited to this type of tourism, listed in alphabetical order. Of course, we are referring to “normal” cyclists because, with good training and a technical or assisted bicycle, you can roam around any Greek island, even the large Crete.

Antiparos (Cyclades)

Perfect for cycling because it is almost entirely flat, with routes near the beaches and with absolutely manageable distances.

Kos (Dodecanese)

Even though Kos is a fairly large island, the fact that it is well equipped for cycling tourism and has long flat stretches near the beaches makes it very interesting for this type of tourism. Being equipped with an airport, you can even reassemble your folding bike at the terminal exit and start your cycling holiday immediately!

Koufonissi (Cyclades)

Being very small, with quiet and almost flat roads, it is perfect for being discovered by bicycle, especially if you have small children with you or do not particularly like walking, perhaps in the sun. Moving by bicycle in nature and reaching all the interesting places on the island in a matter of minutes is both an emotion and a convenience.

Spetses (Saronic Gulf)

On this small island, very few people have permission to travel by car, so bicycles and scooters dominate the roads. The island is therefore perfect for being explored on two wheels, without too much effort because it is flat and offers the comfort of shaded stops due to its greenery. The main road that circles the island always stays close to the sea.

Thassos (Northeast Aegean)

Thassos is not small, but it has a road that runs almost entirely around its perimeter, almost always by the sea, with acceptable gradients. This way, you have the opportunity to access beautiful beaches whenever you feel the need or visit the various coastal villages. The routes that wind through the interior are generally more challenging because the island is mountainous, but the wooded vegetation is very beautiful.
